$500 to $1500 in one month!!

Simple idea which has completly taken over the Newcastle Poker Forum at present.

Basically we had idea from alot of threads and replies at the forum that alot of players play poker with no plan, idea or bankroll management whatsoever yet walk the walk n talk the talk as they say. As such we requested players who thought they could take $500 and turn that into $1500 within one month using normal game selection and within bankroll management and within a structured plan. 18 applicants applied and we chose 4 totally different type of players to give us a wide spread of games and styles and a varying type of approach to make it interesting as possible.

The challenge starts on Thursday 1st October and Im sure it will be fascinating to watch

sub threads with full details on can be found and followed at $500 to $1500 within a month

Close but no cigar

After winning the national league I thought I would have another pop at it , the only problem being it was not very good timing( 6 weeks hols).
Anyway although I did not play as often I as would have liked I put in a decent performance and managed to secure 2nd place(whoop).Had it not been for an un-timely shit run in my last 7 torny,s I may well of won but thats just the way variance runs , so overall I was quite chuffed with my finishing position.
Been a tough year so far but I am looking forward to the run in as I have a few very good poker torny,s coming up, playing the GUKPT Grand final and the Champion of Champions , and Im thinking of playing the main events at Blackpool and Thanet although the latter may well prove to be to much travelling.,
Anyway got to sort time off from work first which is always difficult,, ohhh yeah and I got to defend the NPF championships which should be another great game.
Overall even if i don,t cash I just hope I play well , enjoy the games and gain some great experience.
At the moment Im thinking of some sort of challenge for next year on stars , the problem I have is that it would mean stopping playing on my regular site where I get 35% rakeback, so Im busy doing some calculations to see if its worth while or not.
Anyway see you all soon on the felt.

Toon to Vegas to Toon

Aint blogged for couple of weeks so thought better put a few lines down as to what Ive been doing.
Went out to Vegas with the family to celebrate Scotts 21st birthday. Had booked good deal into The Palazzo and what a hotel that place is. Its only been open a couple of years and its basically an extention to The Venetian Hotel Complex. Pure luxury & quality to be honest and at $90 per room per night thatll do for me. By far the best hotel Ive ever been in anywhere in the world and it shows at those prices how even Vegas is being badly effected by the global credit crunch.
Overall at the time we were there the tournaments available were shocking tbh with very little choice apart from the normal Vegas crapshoots wanting you in and out as soon as possible. Wynns had some what they called Deep Stacks on but the structures were awful and as such the best games by a preverbial mile was in The Venetian which to be honest is the best cardroom by a mile to play anyway.
Played 5 tournies with no success not getting any further than 14th from average fields of 100/130 and apart from one in which I donked off bad mid way I simply had horrible cards and no enjoyment at simply sitting there grinding away with shite. Had a decent cash session for a few hundred the 2nd day but lost it back the next night and then finally on the last night I found the cash tables of Planet Hollywood and believe me if I can win at cash then anyone can.
Sat down with max $200 at $1/$2 at what I can only describe a very interesting table. It consisted of Drunken American maniac seat 1, american weekend student visitor looking for chicks seat 2, me seat 3, London Bus Driver seat 4, nervous american seat 5, american local tramp sitting with $40 who shipped or folded seat 6, mexican evil looking bloke seat 7 who was apparently in Vegas studying mathematics, Typical cardroom shark I nicknamed "Jaws" in seat 8 obviously with eyes on seat 1 money, London bus driver No 2 and friend of seat 4 sitting seat 9, and finally seat 10 the London bus driver number 3 who was wife of seat 4 and friend of seat 9.
Basically the game consisted of maniac in seat 1 raising with anything and the "Shark" and Mexican mathematician trying to snare him with monstas. London bus driver in seat 9 kept losing $100 every orbit and went across to another of his mates at another table to re load with a credit tab. Seat 10 the female bus driver always thought 3rd pair was good and seat 4 bus driver only played AA KK or AK.
Basically the Mexican and local shark were there to catch the maniac but alas all his stack came mine way in this hand. He had been hitting incredible hands with shite and was obvioulsy frustrating the lurking sharks with his play. I limp position 2 with JsQs and 4 others join in to maniacs BB who makes it the standard $15 to play. I call plus one other and we see the flop of QQ8. Maniac checks and I decide to lead for $15 to fold by Shark and maniac calls. Turn is the magic J and maniac now leads for $25 which I flat call. River brings 3 and a few seconds later he utters those beautiful words of " ALL IN" I paused for like 2 seconds then asked, " excuse me dealer did he announce all in ? " to which the dealer politely said " yes Sir he most certainly did" to which I announce "I CALL"
He seemed very proud as he slams Q6 on the table but my tabled QJ seemed to put him in an alcoholic state of shock as all his chips were pushed across to me. At this point the shark racked his chips up giving me a slight pat on the back as he left and the maniac guy simply sat in his seat for at least another 10 minutes. Hung around for a few more orbits before leaving with very nice $600 profit.
Gets outside and decide to walk back to hotel when coming towards me is a rather trampish looking black girl who asks "where you going honey" Last night for me and I answer " Im going home honey" to which she replies "take me home with ya honey" ermmm no thanks cos I dont think her honey would be of the sweetest type tbh.
Overall I found Vegas very different to the WSOP time I normally visit but its still an amazing place anytime of the year. Last day we found an amazing eating place in the Palazzo called the Gran Lux cafe. Anyone going there must make this a place to eat. Amazing place with amazing food with amazing service at very very reasonable prices.
Im sure Scott enjoyed it and Im sure it wont be his last visit.
Journey back was rather spoilt by awful seats with the seats infront of us pushed back to give us no room whatsoever and very uncomfortable. Must start treating myself like Mr Oranges does and start travelling in "legroom" class

Played a couple local tournies on weekend I got back and went deep in both before losing a 60/40 in one and then going out to a one outer in the other.
Was supposed to be travelling to Liverpool at weekend for the Coral Masters at Leos but work commitments changed that but was great to see fellow blogger Steve Holden take that down and I followed most of it on live stream. Nice to see him have a success from whats obviously been a very tough year from him reading between the lines on his blog.
I had a fun night at the Grosvenor on Friday despite being very tired made purely by the cash table we had late on as featured by Cowheads previous post.

This week Ill probs play Circus Tuesday and then take in the Aspers monthly £75 Deep stack on Saturday.
till then toodle ooooooo

Do I just attract Idiots?

Areet lads!
After feeling ill, a tough week at work with a bunch of numb young-uns, stimulating conversation with my lass all week I decided to get out of the house last night and relax. So needing some stimulating conversation and a touch of decent, adult social interaction, where did I end up? THE NEWCASTLE GROSVENOR!
It was a fun night in the main to be honest but, to tell the truth a Newcastle Casino doesn't really rate highly on the scale of normal people regarding IQ.I crossed paths with some proper numptys if I'm being totally honest, aswell as a few characters. Some people you may know some you wont, so I'll change the names to prtect the innocent where need be.
7pm: Got home from work, quickly change and dash out to pick up Knerrad on the way.
7.30pm: Pick up Darren, arrive at Grosvenor about 7.45pm.8pm: Start tourney.
8.30pm Chipped up a few thousand without showing down a hand, all's well on the playing front then I notice my first idiot. The guy to my right is using what looks like a $5 casino chip from the MGM in Vegas. "Nice chip mate" I say "I actually stayed in the MGM when I visited Vegas" "Yeah" he says, "I got it in the Hotel gift shop when I was there for only $10" WTF???????????9pm: I notice idiot 2,3 and 4. We had been playing 9 handed at our table then Candice brought a guy over to our table after some kid had bust out. In her hand was the card. TABLE 2, SEAT 10. Now, there was no chair between seat 9 guy and the dealer (seat 1) but seat 6 was empty. So, seat 7, seat 8 and seat 9 were scratching their heads as to what to do. The normal, and easIest thing would have been for seat 7 to slide across to seat 6, seat 8 slide into seat 7 and seat 8 to slide to seat 7 opening a seat for this kid to sit down. So after 5 mins and more head scratching seat 7 decided to pick up the fuckin chair no:6 and pass it over the table behind seat 9 guy.WTF??? Slide along one you thick fucks!
This lack of any kind of common sense must have been having an effect on me by now cos it wasn't long after I blew half my stack on shit with some stupid fucking move and paid the price.Soon after, got moved tables and sat for 2 hands with now 6 bbs after getting plonked down on the bb first hand and sb right at the stat of the next level. FML!Next hand, kid makes a raise it's folded to me on the button, I look at my cards, 88, good enough for me to ship, the guy insta calls and flips over QQ and seeing as I dont run like an 18 year old, South African, Hermaphrodite on steriods I received no help and I was gone.
11.10pm(ish) Sit in a 25p/50p cash game with the £50max. Looking round the table I had the dealer that looked like a young Herman from the Munsters. A friend or a friend of mine who I met in a private game once, Irish Andy from the forum, some other young kid, John McCririck's younger brother sitting next to me, another youngish lad to my left and two miserable fuckers in seat 9 and 10. I caught there names, Grumpy and Clean Robb, I think. Grumpy was a short little fucker who walked with a limp, and Robb looked like a grumpy, elder relative of Peter Beardsley with specs.
12 midnight: Idiot no:5. McCririck's younger brother calls a £20 river bet (approx £70 pot) with 23 on a 455,10,J board.LMFAO!!!! must have had the other player on 23 aswell and was calling for a split pot. WTF???????

Idiot no:6 and 7. Grumpy and Robb had been chatting to each other the whole time I was at the table. They must have known each other as all they talked about was some poxy cruise ship they'd been on a few years ago.I actually asked them at one point if either of them had played before and they said "NO" we've watched poker on TV though and a few hands later I knew they were telling the truth. They'd played a few suspitious hands between them, one in particular stuck out in my mind where Robb had bet every street on something like a Q,J,10,4,8 board. Grumpy mentioned during the hand that he had a tell on his mate. When he has a 9 his head twitches to the right. Now when he made a river bet of £15 his head was going like the clappers like the cop from Dumb and Dumber after he drank a bottle of piss. The kid in the hand makes the call with top pair, who is a friend of mine (who's another fucking idiot tbh but he's a mate) and sure enough Robb flips over 9x for a rivered straight.(Fucking luckbox)Few hands later it's folded to numpty (oops!) I mean Grumpy who makes a mid-late position raise. Everyone folds other than Mcririck in the BB.Flop: 10,3,x. Mac checks,,Grumpy bets, Mac calls.Turn: x. Mac checks,,Grumpy bets, Mac calls.River:3. Mac checks, Grumpy bets and Mac calls. Mac flips 10x, Grumpy flips 6,3 off for rivered trip 3's. WTF??? Grumpy said afterwards "I knew I was behind all the way but HAD A FEELING I'D SUCK OUT A RIVER" (That ole chestnut)
12.30am: Idiot no 8: The youngish lad to my left had seemed to play ok the time we were at the table and seemed quite normal until he beckoned one of the waitresses. "Can I get a pizza please" he asks. "No problem sir" she replies. "What would you like?" "Pepperoni" he says. "But, no Pepperoni or cheese please" WTF??? I said "Just bring him a plate of dough luv" WTF??????
12.45am: Idiot no 9.(and the biggest of them all)Robb limps utg, 5 other limps. Dough boy raises from SB to £7.25, Robb calls, others fold, Idiot 9 calls too. Flop: K,10,6. Dough leads out £15, Robb folds, Idiot9 tanks then shoves about £50, doughboy fist pump, insta calls and flips over AA. Idiot9 sheepishly flips over 99, turn and river brick and Idiot9 leaves the table.I didn't get his name but I think I heard somone say it was "CROWDED" or "CHOW DREAD" anyway, regardless he was the biggest fucking idiot of the night IMO.
All in all, good night, had a laugh really, met a few of the forum lads again and also met, and had a brief chat with Jimmy Chipmunk and Bo$$Hog on the tourney table I bust out of.Hope to be back again soon.
Cow.

Stumpy is my hero

Hello everyone its been a while since I posted but I needed inspiration and short of wanting to kill a few students who have been in my taxi nothing else has really got the blood circulating as of late.
I have been reading Stumpys blogs and have been impressed with his methodical and relentless build up of his bankroll on Full Tilt and after telling Dave 'Teamdobbs' Collins that i was pretty much bored shitless of live poker at the minute I deposited £25 ordered a curry and a bottle of wine and logged on to Full Tilt.
As soon as I got on I went to the find a player option clicked on Stumpys username and found him playing the $24 freezeout with $25k guaranteed,Why not I thought and with a double up very first hand AA I was focused and ready for the usual 8 hour slog for $60 that I hear a lot about on Stars and Full Tilt.
I hate to bore people with the details so I will fast forward to the Final Table where I had 160,000 and the next lowest was 300,000 so 9th was looking favourite,I got to admit I felt like an extra in Trumpton as it was Spew,Spew,Fishy Mcgrew,Cuthbert,Dribble and Donk :)
3 left soon became 2 as the big stack insured I was getting at least $4k as he bust yet another to give himself a 6 to 1 chip lead,I offered him a deal but he refused!
After about 30 minutes of chipping away I was nearly level,15 minutes later and I have the big stack and then I pick up KK and just check call to the river when he pushes his last into a low board with the very unlucky QQ
1st prize $7k and its dance around the bedroom time till I stump my toe weeeeeeeeeee :)
Right there's another tourny starting on Full Tilt in 2 minutes so laterz all weeeeeeeeeee:)

Jimmy
